This is the image for the news article titled Bailey students compete in district spelling beeThe district's Jan. 20 spelling bee for winners from Bailey Middle School and Carrigan Intermediate School was the longest we've had in years. The competition lasted 24 rounds with 91 words, including "hodgepodge," "arboreal," "braille," "epoxy," "patrician," "esplanade," and "commodious." Students from Bailey and Carrigan competed in the district bee after winning their individual school bees.

The district winner, Arin Bhandari, a fifth-grader at Carrigan, will now move on to the regional bee at Quinnipiac University next month. Our runner-up was Ayannah Obas, also a Carrigan fifth-grader.

Our other competitors were Coogan Cardella and Gianna Ruiz, grade 6, Carrigan, and Dev Patel and A'nh Ngyen, grade 7, and Mia Silva and Maura Dowd, grade 8, Bailey. Winners received Barnes and Noble gift cards, which were donated by the PTA Council.
