Today, students at Bailey Middle School attended an impactful presentation by the HEAT team (Heroin Education Action Team), focused on raising awareness about the dangers of fentanyl. The presentation was led by Tricia Collins, an Assistant U.S. Attorney, and Joanne Conlan, a former West Haven teacher and local community advocate.
Tricia Collins provided students with essential information about fentanyl—what it is, how it’s made, and the serious dangers it poses. She emphasized the importance of making safe, informed choices and staying away from all forms of illegal substances.
Joanne Conlan bravely shared her personal story of loss, recounting how her daughter Moriah’s life was tragically cut short by this dangerous drug. As a former educator, Joanne now dedicates her time to speaking in schools and communities, advocating for drug prevention and awareness so that no other parent has to experience the heartbreak of losing a child.
We sincerely thank Tricia and Joanne for their time, dedication, and for delivering such an important and powerful message. Your words resonated deeply, and we are grateful for the valuable lesson you shared with our students today.
